Alkapellets have a high alkalinity (similar to horses saliva) this helps the stomach and foregut, but most importantly the alkalinity carries through to the hind gut, to create a kind environment for the fiber digesting microbes to flourish, this keeps the starch digesting microbes from becoming too prevalent, and creating an imbalance.
